Odessa, Texas -- Open to Zach -- Circa Ep. 6
Claire sat in the chair in the kitchen staring at the wall, that meeting with her bio-parents had been a complete flop. They hadn't told her anything interesting, at least in the sense of finding out if they had the same powers as her, and she wasn't too happy. Especially after her mom told her that she had some genetic defect, she assumed it was her powers, and they hadn't been able to find her bio-parents at that point.

She sighed as she reached for another cupcake, she needed an intervention to her sudden cupcake addiction and decided to grab the phone and call Zach. She dialed the numbers and listened to the ringing of the connection. She cradled the phone in her shoulders as she licked the frosting off her fingers. Fumbling slightly when he actually picked up the phone she smiled, "Hey Zach, it's Claire. I was wondering if you'd like to come over. I need to vent and you're the only person who would understand."
Zach (Thomas Dekker): eekifilmdeadpeople on November 12th, 2006 03:54 am (UTC)
Zach lay on his bed, staring down at the chemistry book before him. Numbers, symbols, bleh. All I need to know is the 02 and the H20. The music thumping through his headphones stopped. Zach took more notice of this than what lay on the page before him. In fact he had been scribbling more on the page than writing any actual answers.

Placing the pencil down, Zach slid off the edge of his bed and sat on the floor, reaching underneath to grab another CD. He heard a vague, musical note elsewhere. Lowering the headphones from his ears, he looked around and realised it was the phone. Quickly he crawled across the floor and made a grab for it, knocking the books from his desk onto the floor.

“Ow, damn, ow… hello?”

It was Claire. And she sounded like she really needed to talk. She wanted to see him in person though which, perhaps, was a little odd but probably meant that her parents were around and she needed a reason to get away from them. She didn’t need to ask twice, Zach was instantly on his bike, pedalling down the street until he reached her house. He knocked quickly on the door, waiting for her to answer. As soon as she did, he walked straight inside.

“Hey, Claire. Where do you wanna go? How were the bio-parents? As weird as we thought?”

Claire was pacing as she waited for Zach to show up at her house. She distanced herself from the cupcakes as much as possible. She quickly answered the door when she heard the knock and let him inside.

"Oh god, Zach, they were horrible. The mother gave me up because she was young and the story she told wasn't that great. And they're completely normal from what I can tell. I just don't feel like they're like me at all. And I've been eating cupcakes like there's no tomorrow," She pouted at him.
Zach (Thomas Dekker): shrugifilmdeadpeople on November 12th, 2006 04:33 am (UTC)
“What do you mean they were horrible? Did they bite you? Attack you? Turn into big giant aliens?” Zach asked, worriedly rattling off questions, but throwing in a less serious one to try and cheer her up.

He frowned as she explained the reason her mother gave her up was because she was young. It sounded like a really typical, scripted response.

“They’re normal?” he asked, a little surprised. “Did you ask them if they survived any horrible accidents or… erm, dog bites?”

He didn’t know what to say anymore. How could they have treated her so badly? And now she was resorting to cupcakes to feel better.

“Don’t do that,” he said. “You need them for the bake sale, remember?”

It was a lame excuse, but a worthy one.

“I don’t see why any parent would give up someone as great as you.”

"They were just so boring, it was extremely awkward. I didn't ask them if they survived anything like that, but they listed off how they had diabetes and cancer or something," She pouted at him again, "And I like my cupcakes. The cheerleaders can go suffer without mine. I don't know why they gave me up either, it was just so stupid."

She pouted even more as she walked over to the couch and flopped down on it as she looked up at Zach. She didn't know what to do anymore, she didn't think they were really her parents, especially after what her mom said.

Zach watched her sadly as she went and sat on the couch. Silently he followed her.

“So it wasn’t everything you wanted it to be,” he said, sitting down beside her. “But, hey, it could have been amusing if we had beat them up.”

He gave her a smile. What else could he say? He knew he wasn’t the strongest guy, but together he and Claire made a great team.

“So what did the parentals think? Were they all suspicious of them too?”
invinciblecheer on November 12th, 2006 04:58 am (UTC)
"No, my dad seemed to really think that they were my real parents and was nice. Then he got a phone call, left for a bit to talk, and then escorted them out. My mom thought it was oh so nice that my dad found them because they couldn't find them when I was a baby and they found some genetic defect with me. Which really makes me wonder about if they're my parents or not. I wish we had beat them up," She replied with a grin as she leaned her head towards him and looked up at him.

She was so thankful that Zach was around, he could listen to everything she had to say and try to make a positive spin on it. Letting him on her secret was the smartest thing she had ever done and she wouldn't go back and change that ever.

He smiled back at her. His foot propped on the opposite knee, he began to play with the loose thread that jutted out from the seam of the leg of his pants, his mind slowly going over everything she had said.

“I wonder why they showed up now?” Zach finally said. “If they were so hard to find back then… I mean it only took your dad like a few days to get in contact with them. It’s like maybe they knew something.” He looked up to her and chuckled. “Who am I kidding? Active imagination. Should seriously stop playing those video games.”

He shifted closer to her on the couch. “So, what’s this genetic defect?”
invinciblecheer on November 14th, 2006 01:39 am (UTC)
"I have no clue, she just mentioned something about how I had a cold when I was a baby and they found a defect. It was very weird. I just don't know what to think about them, I don't think they're really my parents. They just seemed so...off...to me," She pouted at him and scooted a little closer.

“You don’t think they’re your real parents?” Zach asked, feigning shock. He lowered his voice to almost a whisper, leaning towards her. “Claire, maybe… do you think you’re adopted?”

He drew back, grinning. She was probably going to hit him again for teasing her. He knew who she’d meant, but he couldn’t allow the chance to pick on the thoughts that echoed out through her mouth pass him by.

“I knew which ones you meant,” he explained. He looked down at his feet, shifting them slightly, thinking a change of topic may just be in order. He didn’t want to get Claire all upset, so maybe general chit-chat might work. “Have you heard anymore about Brody?”

Claire gave him a playful glare as she reached over and hit him in the arm, he was being such a dork! "Zach, how could you? I can't believe you would suggest I'm adopted!" she said aloud as she pouted at him.

"Uh, not since I went to apologize to him in the hospital and he didn't even remember who he was, it was so weird. I mean, I really didn't think the accident was that bad," She looked upset as she talked about it. She couldn't believe Brody had forgotten who he was, did she really do that to him? If so, she really shouldn't be allowed to walk around scratch free.
Zach (Thomas Dekker): oh rly?ifilmdeadpeople on November 15th, 2006 10:51 am (UTC)
“It wasn’t that bad? Claire, you went through a windshield!” Zach said, a more serious edge to his tone. He sighed, pursing his lips in that sad kind of way he always did when he saw Claire getting upset. Tentatively he lifted his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him. “At least it wasn’t you who forgot everything. It’s hard enough getting you alone now. I can’t even think what it would be like trying to keep track of you to make sure you didn’t freak out about your secret all over again. Could you imagine me showing you that tape?” He chuckled to himself. "How funny."
invinciblecheer on November 15th, 2006 01:22 pm (UTC)
Claire let him put his arm around her shoulder and she moved closer to him, laying her head on his shoulder. She probably would't have done that under normal circumstances, but right now she needed the extra contact. She needed to be held and comforted because she didn't know what to do anymore.

She chuckled as he talked about how he hoped she wouldn't lose her memory because she wouldn't believe what's on that tape if she did, "I would probably yell and scream at you to get out of my house if you showed me something like that."
Zach (Thomas Dekker): wanderifilmdeadpeople on November 24th, 2006 08:29 am (UTC)
“Yeah, you’ll turn into little miss Super-Bitch like you used to be,” Zach joked. “But seriously, if you gave yourself a little more cred for your abilities you wouldn’t need a tape to prove you’re indestructible. It doesn’t change you, not really. You should be happy with who you are. Embrace your inner freak.”

He smiled, pulling away from her. Pushing himself to his feet, he turned around and looked back down to her, shoving his hands in his pockets and shrugging his shoulders.

“I guess I should be going. My parents will probably want me home for dinner.”
invinciblecheer on November 26th, 2006 03:09 am (UTC)
"Okay, I'll see you later anyway. Thank you for coming over and talking with me, it was a big help," She smiled happily at him as she got up and walked with him to the door.
