Opening Odessa, Texas thread, circa Ep. #2

“Aaron, hey, I’m putting together a video for homecoming. Want to say a few words?” Zach asked, lifting his camera to back up his statement.

“Sure,” Aaron said, standing. Zach prepped the camera, switching it on and focusing on the boy in front of him. “Let me just start by saying what an awesome year this has been, and how gnarly—”

“Gnarly?” the girl seated on the ground said with a laugh. “Who says that anymore?”

“Hey, if you watch Jay and Silent Bob –” Aaron began to argue.

Smiling at their banter, it quickly changed to a frown as Zach saw something in the viewing screen just off to the right behind the tree that Aaron was standing in front of. Curious, Zach zoomed in on the object. The picture shook violently in his hands. But he was certain, it was a police car. And there was somebody getting out of it, heading for the main entrance of the school. Zach closed the screen on the camera and switched it off.

“Zach, man, what are you doing? I wasn’t finished!” Aaron protested.

“Mind my stuff,” Zach said, lowering his backpack and placing the camera down beside it.

Racing towards the hedges, keeping low so he wouldn’t be spotted, Zach headed towards the front pathway straining to overhear the conversation between the sheriff and the other uniformed man that accompanied him. They were looking for a cheerleader – one with Union Well High’s school uniform – who had been at the site of the train wreck. Claire. He had to warn her. And it was then that he remembered the tape.

Rushing back to his backpack he discovered that, although he had told Aaron and his girlfriend to watch it, they had long abandoned his gear at the sound of the bell. A little irritated, Zach glanced around quickly before picking up his belongings and racing towards the quadrangle. He placed his camera into his backpack, but the thought suddenly occurred to him that he still had Claire’s tape, or at least he thought he did. Rummaging through his bag as he rushed through the crowd of students, he became more fretful at the disappearance of the tape. He was so immersed in his search he ran into a fellow student, turning to round them as he continued to pat his bag down. Nothing. Glancing up he saw that the lockers were ahead of him. Dashing around the other students as if he were a skilled football player weaving between his opponents, Zach reached his locker and fumbled with the combination before yanking it open. He noticed he had passed Claire, but he wanted to find the tape before he bothered her about it. His hands flicked through the folders, papers and books that lined the top of his locker. It wasn’t hidden there. Time to panic. Unless Claire has it.

“Claire,” he said softly, rounding her and hoping maybe Jackie and Brody didn’t hear him. He waved a hand at her, indicating she should pull herself away from the others. “May I borrow your ear just for a minute?”

He knew there was no chance he would be able to get Claire to ride his bike, so he opted to walk along the streets with her instead. Fumbling with the keys as he pulled them from his pocket, he eventually found the right one to insert into the lock and opened the front door.

“After you,” he said courteously, allowing her to walk into the house before him.

He dumped his bag onto the nearby chair in the living room, checking by the phone for messages before jogging up the stairs towards his room.

“Sorry, it’s a bit of a mess,” he said, kicking aside the clothes he had failed to put in the laundry hamper the previous night. He was about to kick them under the bed when he remembered that’s where he was meant to search first. Kneeling down he lifted the quilt and looked underneath. “We weren’t looking for smelly sneakers or Crash Palace CDs were we? Because, if that was the case, I found them.”

Claire walked with him back to his house, she had never been there before, so this was definitely going to be an experience. Once they were inside Claire looked all around, taking it all in, it was such a nice house.

She was so used to her own mother being around in their house that she was surprised that no one else was home yet. She walked up into his room and grinned at the mess she saw, "If I had any doubts you were a boy Zach, they've all been squashed."

She moved over to his desk chair and took a seat, spinning around slightly, as she watched him, "Nope, we weren't looking for sneakers or cds. You're going to have to keep looking."

He couldn’t help but grin at Claire’s joke, a small laugh escaping his lips as he continued to dig under the bed. Nope, nothing here. He heard a shift of movement and a small creak as Claire spun around in his desk chair. Crawling right back until he was completely freed from the captivity of the mess that lay under his bed he looked up to Claire. She looked just like a princess sitting there quaintly in her throne – his throne. It was his chair after all.

“I know you probably think you shouldn’t get up close and personal with my stuff, but do you wanna help look?” he suggested with a laugh. “I think the risk of discovering smelly socks is probably worth it to find your video.”

[ooc]Argh, bad post. Anyways, I'm gonna watch ep #7 tonight. Do u wanna start off a new thread for ep #6 with *hopefully* everyone else (depending on whatever they're doing, I'm sure we can still do it). Oh and thanx for doing that private entry like me *Squee* That was so funny and cute and I couldn't help but comment *bounce* I ♥ personal takes on eps. [/bic]

Claire stared at him for a moment and wrinkled her nose, "Do you really have smelly socks lying around? That's just gross." She got off the chair and walked over to where he was. Once there, she got down on her knees and looked over at him, "So where are we looking?"

[ooc]Yeah, mine's kinda short too >< And omg Claire/Zach in ep. 7 is sooo cute. And yeah, we can do a new thread, I'll post it up either today or tomorrow. And yeah personal entries are fun especially when people reply.[/ooc]

[ooc] Yeah I know, had me in stitches. Especially the fact that it was under his bed after all... right where we were checking *snicker* Can't believe how well that fit in. [bic]

“Yeah, probably. I don’t know what else is dying a slow death around here. Wait, there’s something on you,” he said, lightly tapping his fingers up her back as if she had a spider on her.

He grinned mischievously as he sat back on his heels. He wasn’t sure where else to look. He could check his drawers, but he knew that probably wasn’t somewhere Claire should or would look. He pointed towards a bunch of magazines piled up alongside his desk.

“Check over there,” he said to her. “And let me know if you find muscles. That rat’s been missing for over a week.”

((ooc- Are we gonna finish this then I'll post a new entry?))

Claire let out a shriek as he ran his fingers along her back, shivering, and swatting at him, "Zach! You're so mean." She stuck her tongue out at him as she made her way over to the pile of magazines.

She reached a hand out to move them and stopped at his words, wrinkling her nose, she replied, "Are you serious? That's gross Zach! I don't think I want to look anymore."

[ooc] Alright, final post ;) You can start the new one :) [/bic]

Zach smiled. “No. But I had you going though, right?”

He moved aside a few more things then let out a beaten sigh. He was never going to find that tape. And he’d already freaked Claire out for the most part. She was reluctant to look through anything anymore.

“Look, why don’t I just walk you home? We can look another time.” He paused, thinking maybe he’d already disgusted her enough. “Or actually, I’ll keep looking later, okay? It’s probably around here somewhere. Don’t worry about it.”
